Moon sign, Sun sign and rising sign describe different positions.
The Moon sign describes the Moon’s position. The Sun sign describes the Sun’s position. Your rising sign, or ascendant, is the zodiac degree rising on the eastern horizon. A birthday-based Sun-sign list cannot tell you all three.
In Vedic usage, Janma Rashi (birth sign) usually means the Moon sign at birth. The same 360-degree zodiac is divided into 12 signs of 30 degrees and 27 nakshatras of 13 degrees 20 minutes. Each nakshatra has four padas (quarters). The calculator identifies these divisions from the Moon’s sidereal longitude.

Birth time and location
What if I do not know my birth time?
Select unknown time to see the possible placements across your entire local birth date. The Moon can cross a sign, nakshatra or pada boundary during that day. If several results appear, a more precise birth record is needed to choose between them.
Use the clock time recorded at your birthplace, including its historical daylight-saving rules. A New York birth and a London birth with the same local clock time are usually different instants. A repeated or missing clock time during a daylight-saving change is flagged instead of silently treated as exact.
